Online Help
The online help for your software application should be the first thing that the user turns to answer a question or solve a problem. There are number of software tools available to produce traditional Windows help (WinHelp) and the newer HTML help files.
Key points
- The text should be clear and concise.
- The help system should include an index and a search feature.
- Screen shots may not always be necessary for every topic - for instance it may not be necessary to show a dialog that the user already has open.
- The level of detail should be appropriate to the user - the content of a help system for software intended for IT professionals should be different to that for software for non-technical
users.
